Online
Soul Shepherding: The online portal for learning resources from Bill and Kristi Gaultiere, whose framework shapes the teaching in this session. The Gaultieres have been counseling and ministering to people for thirty years, and Soul Shepherding is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to helping believers discover their next steps for growing in intimacy with Jesus, emotional health, and loving relationships.
Renovare: Founded by author and pastor Richard Foster, Renovaré USA is a Christian nonprofit that models, resources, and advocates fullness of life with God experienced, by grace, through the spiritual practices of Jesus and of the historical Church. Renovaré publishes print and online resources, including books, articles, messages and podcasts. Retreats, spiritual formation groups, and educational initiatives like the two-year Renovaré Institute provide community and experience where that knowledge can move from head to heart.
Transforming Center: Founded by author Ruth Haley Barton, exists to create space for God to strengthen leaders and transform communities. They serve leaders of purposeful communities – churches, non-profits, and businesses – who long for new rhythms that allow them to flourish in their life and leadership. The retreats, resources, and relationships they offer are designed to provide you with a safe place to be honest about the challenges of spiritual leadership, to experience rhythms of solitude, prayer and community, and to deepen your understanding of leadership that flows from your transforming self.
Books
Christians throughout history have agreed that there cannot be deep knowledge of God without deep knowledge of the sel. Discerning your true self is inextricably related to discerning God’s purposes for you.
The Gaultiere’s draw on their experience as spiritual directors and counsellors to show you how to identify your current stage of faith and the next steps to take in order to grow.
M. Robert Mulholland, Invitation to a Journey: A Roadmap for Spiritual Formation (Formatio, 2016)
Profoundly biblical and down to earth, this book will help Christians identify and grow at any stage of their faith journey.
John Ortberg, The Me I Want to Be: Becoming God’s Best Version of You (Zondervan, 2014)
Ortberg helps gauge your spiritual health and measure the gap between where you are now and where God intends you to be. Then he provides detailed tasks and exercises to help you live in the flow of the Spirit, circumventing real-world barriers to flourish even in a dark and broken world.
Pete Scazzero, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (Zondervan, 2017)
Claiming that it’s impossible to be spiritually mature, while remaining emotionally immature, Scazzero outlines the signs of emotionally unhealthy spirituality, providing seven biblical, reality-tested steps to become emotionally mature as Christians.
This books addresses the self-narratives that hinder spiritual growth and the desires of the soul that only God can satisfy.
Let your roots grow down into him,
and let your lives be built on him.
